Abstract

Vertical farming and urban agriculture are emerging as innovative solutions to address the challenges of food security, urbanization, and environmental sustainability. This integration aims to transform underutilized urban spaces into productive agricultural sites, leveraging advanced technologies such as hydroponics, aeroponics, and controlled environment agriculture (CEA). Vertical farming maximizes land use efficiency by growing crops in vertically stacked layers, significantly reducing the need for arable land and water. Urban agriculture promotes local food production, reduces food miles, and enhances urban resilience. This abstract explores the potential of combining vertical farming with urban agriculture, examining the benefits, challenges, and future prospects for creating sustainable, self-sufficient urban ecosystems.
